Serge Diakota


DIAKOTA MABILAMA Serge, born September 4, 1988 in Kalemie in the province of Katanga Democratic Republic of Congo. He Came to Kinshasa in 1992, where he carried out these studies primarily at the Libota school complex and secondary at the Cardinal ETSOU college.

It was at the Cardinal Etsou college that he was directed by his drawing teacher towards the Institute of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, where he went to continue his humanities in the option Interior design, In 2006 he obtained his baccalaureate. Despite his diploma in Interior design, he was always passionate about sculpture which motivated him at university, precisely at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa.

During his final year in 2010, he participated in a scenography workshop for which he was selected, he had obtained a grant of two weeks, in Strasbourg, France at the ESAD (School of Decorative Arts of Strasbourg) in the project 50/60 MILOBELA as part of the fiftieth anniversary of the independence of the congo.

Upon his return to Kinshasa; this trip changed his vision of the world, and his artistic practice in relation to the exchanges and encounters he has made with other mediums, artists, and teachers. At the end of 2010, he obtained his graduate title in sculpture. After his studies he embarked on a professional life by finding the artist Vitshois Mwilambwe Bondo as a mentor within the kin art studio structure, where he spent time on the theoretical and practical level with the artist. It is thanks to these workshops and residences that he was able to find, and establish his approach, artistic practice, and personality. Currently, he is working on painting, engraving, sculpture, drawing, and photography using media from everyday life.
