Born and works in Harare, Wilfred Timire went to Peter Birtch School of Art for his early art education. His work is inspired by his mentor Gareth Nyandoro and leading Zimbabwean artist Misheck Masamvu.
Timire is one of two winning artists of the artHARARE Prize - a collaboration between artHARARE and Africa First. The Prize aims to benefit emerging and mid-career artists working in Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwean diaspora by increasing their profile and giving them international exposure.
Timire was 1 of 2 winners for the inaugural Africa First residency prize at Art Harare in 2022. That year his residency was held in Accra at Gallery 1957 which was followed by a duo exhibition, together with the 2nd winner Franklyn Dzingai, in Cape Town in February 2023.
