Lindo Zwane

Lindokuhle Zwane was born in 1992 in Newcastle, South Africa. He works predominantly in paintings and charcoal drawings as well as printmaking mediums. He studied printmaking at Artist Proof Studio, where he also worked as a drawing facilitator for 3 years.  In 2017 Zwane won an award in one of the country's prestigious art competitions the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards, he took the 2nd prize (the Ekurhuleni prize). Another achievement for Zwane was winning a painting merit award in the 2019 Thami Mnyele Arts Award. Zwane’s work is focused on feelings of nostalgia and the process of catharsis. He is interested in everyday life and where it’s headed, but also in how the past inextricably weaves itself into the present. The memory and influence of the past and the reality of the present often pose deep psychological challenges that he expresses through the work. The challenges come from the difficulty of being able to accept the past and acknowledge the present, particularly the chasm that can exist between those two realities.
