Emecheta Stanley Ekene

Born in 1994, Emecheta Stanley Ekene is a self-taught Nigerian artist, living and working in Lagos. Ekene’s artwork takes a critical view of humanity, exploring the concept of a unique pattern of creativity and the accompanied process into perfection through his works. The artist portrays figures of African descent with intentional elimination of skin color, drawing the viewer’s focus to the figure itself, how they dress, what they are doing, who they really are, their impact. Whilst drawing the viewer’s mind away from the skin color, Ekene’s works communicate with the viewer psychologically, relating to personality and equality of life. Each project often consists of multiple works, often grouped around specific themes and meanings. Each piece is a representation of human energy, personality, and identity. During research and production, new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work.
