The Brother is a self-dedicated piece. It refers to a Zulu saying, “ubudoda abukhulelwa,” which translates to “one does not have to be old to do manly deeds.” This aphorism is usually meant to remind young men of their responsibilities and encourage them to remain resilient. I have had to apply this adage throughout my stay in the city of Johannesburg. Joburg is a city where young people have to assume some tough responsibilities from a very young age. At the beginning, it’s not easy. Eventually, however, most people get through it, and at the end of the day what remains is who you truly are and what makes you unique.
