This painting serves as a warning about the ever present possibility of the artist’s country being broken up in to a number of different states effectively abandoning the colonial invention of the nation of Nigeria. Whilst fully acknowledging the arbitrary and clumsy nature of the colonial boundaries, the artist has faith in Nigeria as a powerful and viable entity and the implications are that any such dismemberment would be both extremely destructive and counter productive.
