The work was part of the artist's solo MFA graduating show at The University of Oklahoma in 2021, where he was the recipient of the Red Clay Faction Award and Oscar Jacobson Award. The subject of the exhibition was ISIBAYA, which denotes in Xhosa an enclosure for cattle and other domestic animals in the villages of native peoples in South Africa. In the exhibition, Mbunyuza reflects on the importance of heritage and social bonds, similar to how the enclosed space within a village is used in rituals as a church to connect with ancestors.
