This artwork started with a photo that I took of a young Himba woman on the streets of Windhoek.  She was probably 16 years old or so.  She was sitting with her baby and trying to sell Himba bracelets.  There was something in her eyes, her face…a  certain innocence but at at the same time she was also a mother, and I could sense the struggle in her life. Himba girls always say they are called Maria…from there, the Christian iconography also developed.
