"This painting is a self-portrait, one of the first I have made in several years. I wanted to create an introspective painting that gives the idea of looking inwards, whilst also looking out. I have used a slightly brighter color palette in this work, to represent the vibrancy of self-love and acceptance. I wanted this work to omit a quiet confidence. I omitted the facial details to give the viewer the sense that they could step into the painting, that the body could be theirs, that they could be at one with the figure. It also gives the figure a sense of anonymity, that you don't necessarily know who they are, how they identify. etc but can still relate to them.” - Miranda Forrester, 2021.
