In this work, we can see a figure riding a flamingo, a bird of grace. The explicit use of an inflatable flamingo is an index to pleasure and abundance. However, the implied performative gestures of inflating point to ways of being constrained. The figure appears to be traveling at an excessive speed towards a void. It is a reflection of Johannesburg, conceptualized as fictional geography, where street hawkers always have to be alert to avoid being arrested by police for selling illegal and counterfeit goods in the streets.
