This work emerges like many of Mokoena's works from a quest to grasp the enormity of the universe, to quantify the unquantifiable and to find a place for his traditional heritage and contemporary reality, within that discourse. The dark of the background is in fact only the top layer of many many multi-coloured surfaces which imperceptibly inform our awareness of the space in the work which is both simple and yet tense with an energy of a call to action, at once filled by precision and chaos - a search for meaning.
