Crazy for you is a painting about a type of absence, best conveyed by a beautiful and untranslatable Brazilian Portuguese word Saudade, a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing or yearning. Saudade evokes a sense of loneliness and incompleteness. Portuguese Scholar Aubrey Bell described it as “a vague a constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist, for something other than the present.” He went on to say that “Saudade is not an active discontent or poignant sadness, but an indolent dreaming wistfulness. It differs from Nostalgia in that one can feel Saudade for something that might never have happened."
